This isn't déjà vu... China has uncovered a new, potentially lethal virus that researchers believe could spark another pandemic.
According to Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control, the Langya Henipavirus, sometimes known as "Langya," has already infected 35 people... it is related to the Hendra virus and the Nipah virus.
While none of the patients have died or become very ill, the virus has never infected humans before to this outbreak, so there are many unknowns.
Because it falls under the Henipavirus umbrella, it has the potential to cause significant harm... According to WHO data, Henipavirus has a fatality rate of 40-75%.
The symptoms may appear all too familiar: fever, headache, cough, exhaustion, and so on.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine, the afflicted patients had a history of interaction with animals... but it's now likely that the virus has already spread from person to human.
Oh, Covid, Monkeypox, and Langya!!!
